Just got back from my 20k-mile maintenance, and the dealer hit me with some extra service recommendations that left me scratching my head. They suggested a throttle body cleaning for $399 and a fuel induction service for $475, totaling around $1,100. These aren’t covered by the complimentary 3-year service plan, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting to hear about carbon buildup or fuel economy services on an EV.

I get that some maintenance is always going to pop up, but are these services even relevant for an electric vehicle? From what I understand, EVs don’t have the same combustion issues as gas-powered cars. I’m all for keeping my car in good shape, but this feels more like a leftover upsell from gas engine days. Are these services actually needed for EVs, or is this just a sales pitch I should ignore?

You're right, those services aren’t typically necessary for EVs since they don’t have a throttle body or fuel system. It sure sounds like an upsell, so I'd focus on the essential EV maintenance instead.

Wow, it’s pretty weird hearing about those services for an EV. Honestly, it might be worth getting a second opinion, I kinda agree, it sounds more like an upsell than real maintenance. Just doesn’t sit right!

Sounds like a bit of a cash grab. EVs don’t need throttle body cleaning or fuel induction. Honestly, skip it unless you’ve got a specific issue popping up. Always a good idea to double-check with your manual or ask another mechanic just to be sure!
