What’s the deal with regen paddles?

So I've been wondering about these regen paddles lately. Aren't they kind of doing the same job as the brake pedal? Why even mess with paddles when the brake's already there? Am I totally off, or am I just not getting the big picture here?

It's because these use a combined braking system that automatically adjusts between regenerative and friction braking.. When you first press the brake, it applies regenerative braking. As you press harder, it transitions to friction braking. The paddles remind me of A/Ts. Even in automatic regeneration mode, the system adjusts the regeneration rate in response to traffic conditions. For highway driving, use a lower regeneration setting to allow for more coasting time. In city traffic, a higher regeneration setting results in more aggressive regeneration. This system seems to work well.

The regen paddles give you more control over how the car decelerates. Instead of just braking, which wastes some energy, the paddles let you increase or decrease regenerative braking to put more energy back into the battery. It’s also great for one-pedal driving in traffic, you can slow down without even touching the brake pedal. Once you get used to it, it’s a game-changer for EVs.

I agree with @Chris_Lives. The actual brakes only engage when maximum regen is reached or when coming to a complete stop.

I use less regen on the highway so I can coast more, and more regen in the city for better braking. Works great!

With the GV60, you've got blended braking. Basically, light pressure on the brake pedal uses regenerative braking, and as you push harder, it switches to friction brakes. I keep it in auto regen, lowest setting, and just brake normally with the pedal.
